After a two-year wait to return to the show ring following a string of Covid cancellations, British White cattle breeders were back with a bang at the Shropshire County Show on Saturday 17th July, bringing forward an impressive line up of entries for judge Paul Pennington to cast his eye over.
At the end of a fantastic day's judging it was three-year-old first-calved heifer Porlock Hilda with her superb March-born heifer calf Porlock Hindy at foot, bred and exhibited by Brian and Marilyn Palmer, which rose to the top of the line up taking both the Female and Breed Championships and quite rightly garnering a great deal of attention along the way. Teaming up with stable mate Porlock Zareen - winner of the senior heifer class and taking the Reserve Female Championship, also bred and exhibited by Brian and Marilyn Palmer - they went on to win the exhibitor owned pairs class in the British White section, followed by the Champion Rare and Minority Interbreed Pair.
In the bull section it was the most senior of the male entries forward - the homebred 2016-born bull Lordswood Oliver from James Brain - which topped the class and took the Male and Reserve Breed Championships, with Marshbrook Mallow's Pride from Elayna Astbury, also homebred, in second.
The Society wishes to thank all of the exhibitors and other breeders in attendance for their hard work and dedication in preparing a quality group of cattle on the day, an effort which was no mean feat in such hot temperatures and, as ever, the willingness of our members to step in as a team and present other exhibitors' cattle in the ring when needed is a testament to their passion to promote the British White breed.
