The highly anticipated 2026 National Show of British White cattle was held at the Royal Three Counties Showground at Malvern on Friday 12 June, featuring breeders from all corners of England and Wales, and judged by well-known pedigree cattle breeder and showman Mr Richard Bartle, Herefordshire. Mr Bartle’s final selection for the Breed Championship went to the March 2024-born in-calf heifer Lordswood Maggie, bred and exhibited by Mr James Brain & Miss Libby McGinn, Stratford-upon-Avon.

Following the class judging, Mr Bartle said: “It was my privilege and pleasure to judge the British White National Show at The Royal Three Counties on a lovely sunny day. There was quality all the way down the line in every class and I would like to congratulate the breeders on the standard of stock and the professional way they were presented.”

“I found my champion in a lovely two-year-old heifer Lordswood Maggie, who was only six weeks from calving, she oozed style and correctness the moment she entered the ring with a lovely top and just correct and feminine in every way.” Lordswood Maggie is sired by Elgany Just In Time and out of Woodbastwick Lacoste, purchased by the Lordswood herd as a maiden heifer at the Society’s Autumn Sale back in 2016.

Awarded the Reserve Breed Championship was another two-year-old heifer, Dallyashes Liaison from Mrs A S Hamilton, Carmarthen, which followed her class-winning counterpart through the senior and overall Female Championships to claim the reserve top spot. Sired by Castleton Tudur EX91 and out of Dallyashes Lunar Thorn (R) VG87, the judge commented that this heifer had “great breed character and correctness.”

The Male Championship was won by Dr Vivien & Mr Andrew St Joseph & Mr Mark Howland’s three-year-old homebred bull Tollesbury Tarzan, initially taking first place in a superbly strong class of senior stock bulls, before being tapped out in both the senior and overall Male Championships. The judge described this bull – sired by Castleton Brenin EX95 and out of Woodbastwick Tequila GP84 – as “a powerful bull with great length and fleshing ability, and super locomotion.”

The Junior Championship was won by maiden heifer Albany Peach, bred and exhibited by Mr Leslie Cook, Cambridge. Placed at the top of an eleven-strong class of 2025-born heifers, Albany Peach – sired by Castleton Stanley EX90 – was described by the judge as “a correct, sweet heifer with great locomotion and style”, and was awarded the Junior Championship just ahead of calf class winner Marshbrook Moonstone, born February 2026 and sired by Marshbrook Flash, in reserve.

Interbreed success

Having triumphed in the breed classes on Friday 12 June, British White Breed Champion Lordswood Maggie (J Brain & L McGinn) then went on to be awarded the RBST Watchlist Interbreed Championship on Sunday 14 June under judge Mr Bernard Llewellyn, Llandeilo, before teaming up with British White Male Champion Tollesbury Tarzan (A & V St Joseph & Mark Howland) to win the RBST Watchlist Interbreed Pairs Championship.
