Enter now for the BWCS National Herd Competition, to be judged by last year's winners of the Best Medium Herd category, Vivien & Andrew St Joseph and Mark Howland of the Tollesbury herd.

Entries will be placed into either the small, medium, or large herd categories based on the number of breeding females being put to the bull in 2026.

Judging will take place on-farm during summer (our judges will be in touch to arrange their visit to you), with rosettes and trophies to be awarded at our AGM on Saturday 3 October for all of the following:

  • Best New Herd, established within the last 3 years

  • Best Stock Bull

  • Enterprise Trophy, for most enterprising business

  • Best Small Herd, 1 - 9 breeding females*

  • Best Medium Herd, 10 - 19 breeding females*

  • Best Large Herd, 20+ breeding females*

  • Randolph Turpin Trophy for Best Herd (overall winner)

*Herd size categories are approximate and may be adjusted once all entries have been received

Entry fee: £20 + VAT per herd

Closing date: Friday 29 May

I've never entered the Herd Competition before and I'm not sure if my herd would be right for it, what should I do?

Give it a try! New entrants are always encouraged (no matter how long you've been involved with the breed) and a big part of the competition is for you to have the opportunity to chat about your cattle with our friendly and experienced judges. Even if you don't end up winning a prize at the AGM, these awards are a good opportunity to learn how to develop your herd for the future, so why not join in!
