The British White breed saw a new record auction price set on Saturday 13 September, when an in-calf heifer topped the bidding at 3,700gns (£3,885) at Melton Mowbray Market's annual Traditional & Native Breeds Show & Sale. Having been crowned Champion of Champions at the event's pre-sale show by their consortium of livestock judges, the February 2023-born heifer Alcroft Beetle was sold to R & S Casper of Maine Agri, Lincolnshire.

Bred by S Cook, Cambridgeshire, this heifer is sired by Nidderdale Alladin (EX91) and out of Southill Teckle (EX92), and was sold in-calf to Castleton Stanley (EX90). Making the short trip across from Lincolnshire to add a pedigree British White heifer to their ranks, purchasers Maine Agri run a 60-cow suckler herd of predominantly purebred Limousin, Charolais, and Simmental females with Limousin bull Blackfriar Uri.

The British White Cattle Society wishes to thank the entire sales team at Melton Mowbray for another exceptionally well-run event, as well as auctioneer Clive Roads for his expertise on the day. Thanks also go to the pre-sale interbreed judges Andrew Fisher (cattle section), Sue Tyson (sheep section) and Tony Scholfield (pig section), and the stewards and market staff for all of their work towards the show and sale.
