Four-time RWAS Breed Champion Castleton Ken from CMB , JAW & DM Wright, Tyllys

Taking a record-breaking fourth RWAS British White Breed Championship in a row at Llanelwedd on Monday 20 July was Castleton Ken EX95 from the Wright family, Tyllys, Powys. Sired by Castleton Centaur and out of Castleton Opal, this six-year-old bull has had his name on the Legge-Bourke Perpetual Trophy for Breed Champion each year since 2023, and the Nant-Y-Rhos Perpetual Trophy for Male Champion since 2022, which is the highest number of championship wins for a single British White animal at the show since classes began there in 1997.

Reserve Breed Champion Dallyashes Liaison from Mrs AS Hamilton, Carmarthen

The Female and Reserve Breed Championships were awarded to the senior heifer Dallyashes Liaison from Mrs Angie Hamilton, Carmarthen. Born in March 2024, this in-calf heifer is sired by Castleton Tudur EX91 and out of Dallyashes Lunar Thorn VG87, and she takes home the Dallyashes Perpetual Challenge Trophy for best female exhibit, ahead of Reserve Female Champion Alcroft Ginger from Miss Sarah Cook, Cambridge, a February 2024-born in-calf heifer which also stood second to Dallyashes Liaison in the senior heifer class.

Reserve Male Champion Cadarn Sentinel from Dr L Eyre, Welshpool

The Reserve Male Championship went to Dr Lucy Eyre’s stock bull Cadarn Sentinel VG87, which is sired by Cadarn Freighter EX92 and out of Cadarn Scenario VG86, and bred by Mr Mark Kennett. In the junior classes, it was Waun Wern Tango from Mr Mathew Jones, Llanpumpsaint, which topped the young bull class, and Alcroft Grace bred and exhibited by Miss Sarah Cook, Cambridge, which stood first in a good class of maiden heifers.

The Society is grateful to our judge Mr Keith Jempson, Oxfordshire, for his thorough and efficient inspection of the breed classes in spite of the high afternoon temperatures during showing, and to all of the exhibitors for putting on an excellent week’s display of cattle and renowned BWCS hospitality throughout! Next year’s Royal Welsh Show will take place from Monday 19 to Thursday 22 July 2027, and we encourage all members to bring along their best exhibits for an even bigger and better showcase of the breed in Wales.
